#43: HURT

When Melissa came out into the hospital corridor to him where he was pacing, looking pale and stressed herself, she had some relieving news. They pumped Stiles’ stomach, cleaned up the cuts he had on his arms and feet, he was sleeping for now but should be okay - physically.

He nodded mutely, but the relief was still overshadowed by the icy chill inside of knowing his son wanted to hurt himself. As soon as he teared up, Melissa was there, wrapping her arms around him in a soothing hug that he needed so much, it took his breath away.

#10: WALK

One of John’s happiest memories with his son was when Stiles was three. Having come home from playgroup where he learned the “When You’re Happy And You Know It” song, he sung it on a walk to the shops for icecream. Getting to the final verse, Stiles continued right on making up his own versions of more verses, and decided it was high time to teach his dad “The best song in the whole world and universe and Solar System.”

From then on, they would always sing it together, and John adored his son’s bright smile that came with it.

#20: TOGETHER

With John’s wife's heart-breaking passing a few years ago, and Melissa’s marriage breaking down from her ex’s drinking problems, they had come to simply work together in the parenting of their sons, Stiles and Scott. There wasn’t any sort of verbal agreement, it just fell into place and worked.

Melissa’s support was something John valued and treasured with every passing day, especially with the boys getting older now and their “problems” more serious and worrisome when they arose. Right now, with his son’s recent terrifying experiences and ailing health, he was more grateful of that help and support than ever.
